Fantastic centrepiece of the welcoming display put on by Sefton MBC, the Local Authority that covers Southport. The giant revolving globe emphasises the theme of this year's show, "The World in Your Garden" and the four corners of the display area are packed with colourful petunias draped around computer monitors, showing how the 'net has linked the world together. |
| Tucked away, hidden in the rich planting around a tiny pool, is this verdigris water sprite fountain. |

Stefan Buczacki and David Bellamy take a closer look at the flora of one of the competition gardens. Professor Buczacki will be opening the Show and Professor Bellamy is a long-standing patron of the Southport show. |
| Finishing touches - a magnificent topiary 'horse and rider' receives a last minute trim before the gates open and the public charge in. Just one of many inspiring plants from Tarleton Specimen Plants |

Tatton might have banned Gnomes from their show last month, but no such snobbishness here at Southport. And, to underline the strong links between Ireland and the North West of England, the show has arranged for its own Lucky Leprechauns to be on hand throughout the show. Now, if only I can find that crock of gold! |
