Southport Flower Show 17-19th August 2000 The Schools' Gardens Winners

Megan Parry of St Cuthberts CE Primary School in Halsall near Ormskirk, shows David Bellamy her winning design. Each school had to design a 6m x 6m plot with a wildlife theme that would incorporate a comms mast and would, in time, offer a refuge and haven for our native flora and fauna.

Kamala Velagala from Fulwood and Cadley Primary School in Preston has her moment of glory with David. Kamala's design incorporates a small pond, with marginal planting and a charming chunk of rock that begs you to sit upon it and trail your feet in the water.

David encourages Jack Shields to take up his hobby of tree-hugging. Jack attends Bishop David Sheppard Primary School in Southport itself and his design includes some lovely columnar conifers that help to disguise the comms mast, which, in a gesture to the asethetic sensitivities of the British public, have been made to look like.......huge leylandii!!
