Another traditional feature of every good flower show is the giant vegetables, which is always a bit of an eye-opener. It always makes me wonder why we put up with the sweaty, plastic-packaged, homogenous, tasteless veg we are fobbed off with by the supermarkets. |
| Fancy a tomato? This award-winning display by Flavourfresh Salads Ltd of Southport offers a masive range of sizes and flavours, all grown in this country. |

Bonsai is not something I have the patience to undertake, but I have to admit that these little tortured trees are mazing works of art. They're so serene and stately, despite their diminutive size that they surely must be nuirtured by folk who have found some inner peace and tranquility in a busy, busy world. |
| Winner of first prize in the Cactus and Succulents Arrangements is this display, contained within a most attractive box base made from rustic birch timber. The mixture of plants is excellent and I loved the little '2000' detail on the rock. |
