Southport Flower Show 17-19th August 2000 The Marquees - Flowers

What flower show would be complete without a gob-smacking display of fuchsias? They're an all-time favourite with many gardeners and always attract a lot of interest, especially when they're as inmposing as this standard spotted on JV Porter's stand.

It was great to see so many excellent entries in the fuchsia competitions, and I'd love to be able to show them all, but I've had to restrict myself to just this one, the winning entry for an arranged collection of fuchsias - lovely, aren't they? :~)

Whilst admiring the entries in the fuchsia competitions, we came across this dark lady of the night on her way for a quick snack. Did she pay to get in, or has she sneaked in like the evil beast she really is?

This is what Flower Shows are all about - incredible displays of summer flowers that stimulate the nostrils as well as the eyes. Look at these gladioli and lilies, the very epitome of an English Summer Garden Show.

And if lilies are your weakness, then this amazingly-scented display from Sherwood Nurseries of Spalding will bring ecstasy to your olfactory senses. Lilies seem to have it all - the magnetic good looks, the wonderful scent, the sheer personality that makes a true queen amongst flowers.
