Katherine Crouch's winning garden design 'Alpha to Omega' - from the BBCtv series "Gardener of the Year".

Katherine, who has just set up her own website had a traumatic two and a half days rebuilding this garden in Southport. The sunken design meant that, twice a day, at high tide, the bottom of the excavation was inundated with ground water. However, judicious use of landscape membranes and gravels, meant that the garden was able to be finished just in time for the show.
Stefan Buczacki enjoys a glass in the Alpha to Omega Garden. The water feature is a work of art in itself. The base is a salvaged wheel hub which carries the copper boiler, the tile-mosaic surround is fastened on with wing-nuts, so that it can be easily dismatled and stored during the winter. The best ideas are usually the simplest ones. a2o with Stefan

ricinus

Above, Ricinus 'Impala', which Katherine has interplanted with Dahlia 'Bishop of Llandaff' in her garden. Opposite, a charming half-globe of sempervivums mounted on top of a tower of old brake discs that were rescued from a skip.

shades of wales

Runner up in the Gardener of the Year competition was this garden, "Shades of Wales" by Sandra Attenburrow, which she designed as an urban garden.

Sandra has based her garden on the stunning scenery of Wales, incorporating slate and decking, with colours inspired by that part of the world.
