| Garden Layout - Plants - Anemones

| There are quite a few of these wonderful early spring ground cover plants in the Kitchen Flower Bed. The picture opposite shows the white form growing through the still dormant blades of the Kniphofia, with a single purple form appearing in the bottom left corner. They have feathery foliage and never get higher than 150mm above ground level.

| Anemone blanda grows from knobbly little tubers and I find them invaluable for providing a carpet of colour over this bed before the summer bedding and perennials get themselves going. They are said to prefer a hot, dry position and mine certainly flourish - I planted 20 of the little tubers over an area of 2 square metres back in 1995 and they've more or less taken over the entire bed, so much so, that I've been harvesting the tubers and transferring them to other spots. | |
